Well, now.... I've let this slide now haven't I?

In
my defense, we did have "hurricane" Patricia storm through. And by storm
through, I mean she spit on us constantly for an entire weekend. But
that's about it.
Last weekend we had storms.
The kind of storms that would make Patricia stay up late at night,
dreaming about the glory days when she was a bad a$$ mother....well, you
know.
Now, we are back to normal. Or as normal as Texas can be I suppose.
On to the question of the day!
Are you ever superstitious about anything?
I'm
a scientist and engineer, which means that I'm naturally cynical about
everything. But I admit that I can be superstitious about certain
things. For instance, I am convinced that if I watch a sports game - any
sports game - the team I am rooting for WILL lose. It's almost a 100%
guarantee. (Side note, someday I will be able to spell "guarantee" on
the first try without having to be told by spell check that I'm an
idiot.) Now, you may think I am exaggerating with this whole cursed
thing. But I have proof.
My most serious cursing of a sports team:
The 1999 Stanley Cup finals. *sniff sniff* Excuse me.... I have to go cry for a little bit.
Okay. I'm back.
My
team (and I do not want any lip or teasing about this, I know that
they are not having a spectacular season) the Buffalo Sabres - I SAID NO
LIP!!! - were in the finals against the Dallas *grrrrrrrrrrrrrr* Stars.
And yes, I said that team's name with a snarl on my lips. It was game
six. The Stars were up 3 games to 2. They were playing in Dallas and the
Sabres had to win this game. I, being the dutiful Sabres fan, did NOT
watch the Stanley Cup that year because I knew I was cursed. But game
six was a doozy! Even though I wasn't watching, I still got periodic
updates about the game's progression.
First overtime. Holy crap, I bet this game is good.
Second
overtime. At this point the temptation to hit the TV power button was
becoming increasingly hard to resist. (Yes, I
had the TV off to avoid temptation to just switch channels.)
THIRD
OVERTIME?!?! SUDDEN. DEATH. You gotta be kidding me! Okay, I can't take
this anymore!!! I flick on the TV and watch on the edge of my seat.
There might have been some yelling going on. Okay... there was
definitely yelling and cheering going on. A lot of it. Less than 5
minutes after I turned on the TV....
It happened.
Not only did Brett f***ing Hull score a goal, but he did it with HIS FOOT IN THE CREASE!!!!
For
non-hockey people, let me explain. The crease is that area in
front of the goal to keep an offensive player from screening the goalie.
The rule was, an offensive player could not be inside the crease unless
the puck was inside the crease. Hull was inside the crease when the
puck was not, therefore, the goal should have been voided and they
should have kept playing.

| SEE?!?!? His foot was in the crease!!! |
But they were in
Dallas. And the confetti was falling and people were celebrating. So the
refs called the goal. Even though everyone knew - including Dallas fans
- that the goal was not valid. The following year, they even took that
regulation out of the rule-book. "We were going to get rid of that rule
anyway." Eff you buddy.
The Sabres lost.
I'm convinced that it was all because I couldn't help myself and I turned on the game.
I'm cursed.
So yeah, maybe I'm a bit superstitious.
That
being said, it's probably no surprise that I might be a little
superstitious when something comes around that is potentially good for
me. I had a great opportunity last week. And everything went great -
better than expected even. But here's the superstition - I don't want to tell
anyone for fear that it will curse me and nothing will come of it.
So
for now, let me just say, I am REALLY hoping for the best and crossing
my fingers... or maybe performing a ritual sacrifice. One of the two. Anyone know where I can get a live chicken??? JUST KIDDING!! ..................... or am I???
Anyway, I'm hoping that it all works out. And if it does, I will tell you guys. There also might be some happy dances and singing. But I'll keep the singing to a minimum. You'll be thankful for that, I promise.

So let me ask, are you superstitious about anything?
